How to resize a JPG without avoidable quality loss
A JPG is already compressed, so resizing it involves two decisions: the new pixel dimensions and the quality used when the result is encoded. This page gives you direct control over both.
Choose dimensions for the destination
Start with the place where the JPG will be used. An image displayed in a 1,200-pixel-wide article rarely needs to remain 4,000 pixels wide. Enter the largest width the destination actually displays and leave aspect ratio enabled so the height follows automatically.
Avoid enlarging a small JPG unless the receiving site requires a larger canvas. Increasing pixel dimensions creates more pixels, but it cannot restore detail that is missing from the original.
Balance JPEG quality and file size
The quality control affects JPEG compression, not the output dimensions. A setting around 85–92% is a practical starting point for photographs. Lower settings usually create smaller downloads but may introduce blockiness around edges or fine texture.
The page shows an estimated output size using the same browser export process as the final download. Review the resized preview and the estimate together instead of choosing quality from the percentage alone.
Keep the original when metadata matters
Browser canvas export creates a new JPEG. Camera metadata, embedded color profiles, location information, and other application-specific fields may not be preserved. Keep the untouched source if you may need those details later.
The newly encoded image is best treated as a publishing copy for websites, forms, messages, presentations, and other places that need specific dimensions or a lighter file.
